Thank heaven for the longer days which should encourage us all to sow our seeds this springtime and get our gardens in gear for the great summer growing season.
Time to get out your garden hoe and keep the weeds at bay before they get established. Fruit trees should be pruned this month, so for advice on what to prune and how, plus this months list of things to do in your garden see the links below.
Top Tip - After a long hard winter you may have some broken earthenwear pots to clear away. Don't throw the broken pieces out. These will make good drainage layers at the bottom of pots and tubs that are to be planted up. Use a hammer to break them into smaller pieces if necessary and store them in a large pot for later use.
April Advice from The Royal Horticultural Society
My sister had told me about this book, she referred to it as her 'gardening bible'. I cannot by any means class myself as an expert gardener, I am a novice infact but decided to grow vegetables, more flowers and shrubs. I could not have done it all without the help of this book, it is really brilliant. It gives all the months of the year on what is needed to be done at that time.
If like me you need some help, I urge you to buy this book, it is not a great big one taking up a lot of space, but it is MASSIVE on giving all the information that you may need. I really rate this book.
